Line Drive Express Shines Bright

MT. PLEASANT – The locomotive nightmare balling freight train known as Coach Jamie Smith’s Line Drive Express blue chip star-studded super squadron won their opening game because of forfeit and they steam-rolled their competition at the Mt. Pleasant fast-pitch softball tournament until Compuware avenged an earlier loss and beat LDE in the finals, 3-2 during the sweltering weekend of July 6th-8th.

Another NSA State Championship for LDE

Coach Jamie Smith and Dave Ruckle, two of the area’s weathered and gnarled softball gurus, garnered the state trophy despite losing one of the top pitchers in the state in Sarah Appold due to an injury. But the Express girls gritted their teeth, hit the ball when they needed to, rode the Sam Willman work-horse through the tournament in her punishing pitching to regain state bragging rights.
