Softball All-Star gamers

EAST LANSING – Two of the all-time greatest, most decorated Meridian Lady Mustangs, Kristen Goodall and Taylor Smith were chosen to play in the MHSAA Division III Softball All-Star game on the campus of Mighigan State University. Storied Sanford-Meridian former player and current varsity softball coach, Jamie Smith was asked to coach the game.
The three ladies would like to thank the Meridian Sports Boosters for covering the cost of their fees for participating in the event. They had a brief practice on the Lady Spartans field Tuesday evening. Then they had breakfast at 7:30 and their game began at 8:30 last Wednesday. Each team had 16 players from all over the state.

The Sanford girl’s team emerged victorious as they won 12-2. Taylor Smith had the initial hit of the game, when she drilled a double to left-center. She then walked and later flew out. Goodall smashed a double and grounded out sharply twice. Tieny Nelson of Clinton was the winning and most dominant pitcher.

Coach Smith said that it was interesting learning about where all the different girls were going to college. Breckenridge’s Sam Willman led her team to a 1-0 win in the D IV game.
